CPD Y Rhyl 1879 secured a hard-fought victory over Llanrwst United over the weekend.

The match, watched by 333 fans, saw the Lilywhites continue their winning streak after last week's penalty shootout triumph against Flint Mountain.

The game started with the visitors in control, as Connor Davies posed a constant threat to Rhyl's defence.

However, the tide turned when Llanrwst's goalkeeper, Cian Williams, brought down Jonny Bravo, leading to a penalty.

Reece Fairhurst, the club captain, confidently converted the penalty, giving Rhyl a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute.

Despite the early setback, Llanrwst remained dangerous, equalising in the 28th minute through Joel Jones, who struck a powerful shot into the bottom left corner.

Rhyl regained the lead just before half-time, with Dylan Proctor slotting a neat left-footed effort past Williams.

The second half mirrored the first, with both teams having periods of dominance.

Rhyl had several opportunities to extend their lead as Llanrwst searched for an equaliser, but the scoreline remained unchanged.

The victory moves CPD Y Rhyl 1879 up to second place in the Ardal north-west division, just one point behind leaders Porthmadog.

After the match, Andy Wilmot and Gareth Thomas praised the squad, singling out Dan Wright and new recruit Jason Foulkes.

They said: "Really pleased for Dan Wright, who hasn’t had as much game time as he would have liked, came in today and did an excellent job, as did Jason Foulkes, he fitted in perfectly."

The duo also emphasised the importance of a strong squad as the team heads into a busy October.

The win against Llanrwst United is a significant boost for the lilywhites as they continue their campaign in the Ardal north-west division.
