A GIRLS’ football team in Conwy county sealed their league title and took part in a fundraising event on the same day.

On Saturday, March 30, Penrhyn Bay Wildcats’ under-12s team played their penultimate match against Treardurr Bay and went on to win their league with a game to spare.

After their victory, they headed straight to Bangor Pier to get prepared for their fundraising event, which saw them cycle against the wind all the way to Llandudno Pier with a stop at St David's Hospice for a photograph.

In total, they rode 22.13 miles, and have raised more than £1,350 on their online JustGiving fundraiser page, as well as in excess of £200 still left to be put on from cash donations.

The total amount raised will be spilt equally between St David's Hospice and the team for resources to further their development.

Nicola Needham, whose daughter plays in the team, said: “With 100+ goals scored and only one loss in 21 games, the girls continue to play fantastic football.

“The girls have played with such commitment throughout the whole season; they are a credit to the club, and I'm sure I speak for their coaches, Carl, Mike and Graham, and all the parents by saying how proud we are of them.”
