LLANDUDNO Albion manager Darren Jones is keen to keep the club moving in the right direction despite the Tier 3 domestic season being cancelled due to coronavirus concerns.
The Ardal Northern League side were set to mount a strong push for promotion with the squad at their disposal, which they have been denied due to ongoing concerns surrounding the spread of infection across the country.
Jones was pleased to finally have some clarity from the Football Association of Wales regarding their predicament but questioned both the governing body’s timing of the outcome and their efficiency regarding communication over the last year.
He said: “I think the latest decision was one we were all expecting but hoping wouldn’t come.
“I found the timing of the decision and its communication a little strange, given we were allowed to get to the end of a transfer window having planned to then be told.
“The good thing about the decision is it now gives us clarity with no middle ground wondering whether we will or won’t get any kind of football this season.
“I think generally the whole situation could have been dealt with a bit more efficiently. Not knowing where we stand has been more difficult than the actual decision itself.”
The manager added that Albion are continuing to work hard behind the scenes to ensure they are ready to hit the ground running when competitive action hopefully resumes next season.
Friendly fixtures in the meantime will have to do, which is another decision that has baffled Jones regarding the season being brought to a halt before a ball was kicked.
“As a club we’ve still been working behind the scenes, planning for the future and looking at next season, evaluating where we are and where we’d like to be, so it never stops,” he added.
“Although we won’t play a “competitive” game this season we understand friendlies will continue to be allowed - another strange one as I’m not sure COVID-19 can differentiate between a friendly and a league game - so we will explore this as a way of trying to keep the squad ticking over and motivated and to use it as prep for next season.”
