LLANDUDNO Albion manager Darren Jones is still hopeful of the league season getting underway despite the latest lockdown measures.
The Ardal Northern League side have been in limbo since March like many across the country since the curtailment of the previous campaign, with no end in sight thanks to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 infection rate.
Jones stated that promotion remains the objective for his squad if competitive action does begin, although he is keen to keep it to a shortened format given the time constraints.
He said: “I believe we’d put together the strongest squad the Albion has ever had this year and the hope was to be somewhere close.
“We are hopeful that the season can still get going in some capacity but at best I think they’ll keep the one round of games as planned “The goal is to always improve and if we can keep the squad together and motivated then hopefully we could challenge for promotion in the not too distant future.”
Jones also elaborated on the club’s decision to become more involved throughout the community during a difficult time.
This has included many donations to charity and the club pulling together to give essential items to the local food bank and help those less fortunate.
“Throughout COVID-19 we’ve been fully compliant and the whole club has done everything required in the hope that doing so would bring us competitive games,” he added.
“Off the field, we decided as a club that we would like to try help out locally so we made the decision to increase the prize payments from our 100 club and donate the rest to either the food bank or a charity.
“While the club had minimal outgoings we felt this was the time to donate as much as we could and believe other clubs have followed suit in making donations to food banks or charity.”
