CONWY Borough’s latest friendly fixture saw them come away from a trip to Airbus UK Broughton with a 0-0 draw.
The Tangerines were more than a match for the Wingmakers during a hotly contested affair, which is more minutes in the bank ahead of their scheduled JD Cymru North opener at the same venue on the weekend of January 15-16.
The contest also saw two encouraging debuts in a first-team environment for Jacob Fraser and Will Clarke, who have caught the eye for Conwy’s reserve side of late and performed well coming off the bench.
Borough boss Matthew Jones, said: “The game gave us the opportunity to test ourselves against a side that where playing Welsh Premier League football last year.
“After last week’s defeat, as well as some of the other pre-season performance we knew it was important that we addressed the number of goals we’ve been conceding.
“Getting a clean sheet was very pleasing and the way the players adapted so quickly to the new shape was brilliant to see.
“Even though the game finished 0-0 it was very entertaining and we created some good chances with Scott McHarrie hitting the post and Aiden Clarke and Corrig McGonigle looking very lively throughout.
“Overall, we were very pleased with the performance form everyone who played. It was also great to see two of the reserve team players stepping up to the first team and perform so well.”
Meanwhile, Conwy skipper Iolo Hughes did his bit for the community during such an uncertain time by arranging for a food bank collection between all members of the squad.
This was donated before their trip to Airbus and taken to the Conwy Food Bank, which received significant praise from the North Wales footballing and wider community.
