CONWY Borough continued their preparations ahead of the new JD Cymru North season with a 3-1 home win over Llansannan.
The Tangerines could see competitive action in the not-too-distant future after Tier 2 was granted ‘elite athlete’ status by Sport Wales, and they are set to increase activity this week with two more warm-up fixtures against Kinmel Bay and Glan Conwy.
Borough boss Matthew Jones, said: “The game provided us with another opportunity to see the lads in action and to get another 90 minutes under our belt.
“Llansannan provided us with a very good test, as they came with a game plan and posed us problems that we had to solve in terms of breaking them down.
“We created a lot of chances, hitting the woodwork twice, but I was disappointed in the intensity and tempo of our play. As I said to the players, we can’t just pick and choose which games we want to perform in, we have to be at it every game, we have higher standards than that and anything that falls below won’t be accepted.
“I’d like to thank Tom (Lewis) and the Llansannan lads for coming down, they performed really well and showed a huge amount of desire and work rate. We now play both Kinmel Bay and Glan Conwy in the next week, and with the news that Tier 2 has been granted elite status, this is now all preparation for the imminent start of the league fixture programme.”
Adam Pritchard opened the scoring on 40 minutes when he turned in a Conor Davies delivery, and the duo of Aidan Clark and Guto Hughes also hit the target after the break.
Sannan emerged from the game with a tremendous amount of credit against high league opposition and did have a consolation to show for their effort when Robin Jones found the net in the second period.
