CONWY Borough continued their preparations ahead of the new JD Cymru North season with a 6-0 friendly win over Llannefydd at Y Morfa.
With JD Cymru North clubs expected to be granted ‘elite athlete’ status by Sport Wales in the near future, the Tangerines got the chance to get some much-needed game time after months of frustration surrounding restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The home side got off to a good start and went ahead through an Aidan Clark finish on the quarter-hour mark, with an unfortunate own goal from a Conor Davies deliver doubling Borough’s advantage with 38 on the clock.
After the break saw Clark despatch his second of the afternoon on 55 minutes, and this was followed by another that came courtesy of John Littlemore with 12 remaining.
Clark rounded-off a clinical display with his hat-trick on 86 minutes and Littlemore also found the target to seal his brace in the closing stages to complete the scoring.
Borough boss Matthew Jones, said: “It provided another opportunity for the players to get out on the pitch and play a game, for the first time in eight months for most. After our game last Friday against Holyhead, this was a chance for the other members of the group to get minutes on the pitch.
“The positive of the protocols and reduced numbers is that players are getting full 90-minute games in, and there’s not too much disruption to the flow of games.
“I was very pleased with the showing from the players, and it was great to see players like James Bell, Connor Davies, Kieran Edwards and Scott McHarrie settle in so well with the others.
“Also, a mention to young goalkeeper Chris Omelia, who stepped up from the reserves with both our keepers unavailable. This shows the importance of having that players pathway and Chris performed really well.
“I’d like to thank Gwyndaf and the Llanefydd players for coming down to today, there were a few familiar faces and it was another chance for me and the management team to see what we’ve got as we hopefully head towards the start of the season.”
