A SUPERB knock Sion Morris was the highlight of Colwyn Bay’s eight-wicket home success over Bangor.
The Liverpool and District Competition side knocked off the reigning North Wales Cricket League Premier Division champions at Penrhyn Avenue to record a notable friendly triumph during a disrupted summer due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The hosts got off to the best possible start when Ryan Holtby removed Wales U18 international Owen Reilly for a duck, with Adam Campion ousting Tomos Davies for nine off 51 deliveries.
Opening batsman David Winter got some much-needed runs for the visitors before he was dismissed at the hands of Arthur Jones for 37, and double-figure scores from Robbie Marshall (21) and Sion Evans (20) kept the Bangor scoreboard ticking over.
A standout knock of 63 from just 65 balls courtesy of Nadeem Rehman was the innings’ memorable highlight which enabled the away side to post a total of 166-6 from their allotted 40 overs in the middle.
Holtby was the pick of the bowling attack, finishing his eight-over spell with two wickets for the loss of 42 runs.
The hosts got off to a good start with 31 from 33 deliveries from Arthur Jones before he played an Andy Williams delivery into the hands of Chris Dawson. Zack Gidlow was next to fall after he was clean bowled by Aidan Kelly for 19, which proved to be the final wicket that the Bay would concede.
Morris was at the top of his game from the first ball to last, continuing his exceptional recent form to finish the day unbeaten on 95.
Will Higginson was there with the former skipper at the end on 13 not out, giving the home side a comfortable victory after 33 overs of play.
There was further good news for the club on Sunday when their 3rd XI sealed a convincing 130-run win over Dolgellau after bowling out their opponents for just 55.
