FORMER Llandudno manager Matthew Jones is poised to take over at Conwy Borough following the departure of Chris Morrell.
The Tangerines announced the decision to part ways with Morrell this week after a new investor wanted a new man at the helm, according to sources.
The Pioneer understands that the club has lined up Jones as a replacement, and the move is set to be confirmed in the coming days.
Jones has previously managed at the likes of Llandudno Junction, Denbigh Town and Rhyl, before spending last season at Llandudno.
He enjoyed mixed success at Maesdu Park during a campaign of transition, and the club parted ways with Jones following the Football Association of Wales’ decision to curtail the season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Morrell outlined his shock at the decision on social media, outlining he was already beginning to make plans for next term after steering the club to top half finish in difficult circumstances.
Director of football Warren Gibbs stepped down during the season due to family commitments, shortly after Morrell arrived within the set-up.
In a statement on social media, Morrell said: “I have had a few hard to take things in football but this tops the lot.
“I really enjoyed my time at Conwy, leaving was not my decision and it came as a complete shock. I must say it feels quite undeserved with a lack of respect to all staff as I believe there are always ways to treat people and it is incredibly disappointing given the work I did last season finishing in the top six.”
