PENMAENMAWR Phoenix boss Martyn Jones outlined his concerns regarding plans to meet the Football Association of Wales’ new tier three criteria.
The governing body issued a new deadline of May 21 to all clubs looking to meet the new regulations, but with the coronavirus pandemic causing a work stoppage across the country, things remain uncertain as to whether teams can fulfil the FAW requirements.
This would be a blow to the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two high-flyers, who have big plans for the future and have invested heavily into getting their facilities up to the required standard.
Jones, said: “The biggest effect for us at this moment in time is the completion of the work needed to gain the tier three licence.
“Understandably work has come to a complete stop at the ground, we have till a new deadline to complete which I’m sure will be reviewed again, but if it stays in place it’s likely we will fall short due to places like builders merchants being closed and contractors not able to work within the government guidelines.”
The Phoenix manager added they “would welcome” finishing the current season whenever possible, and the club are using the power of social media to keep spirits high in the camp.
They currently sit second and level on points with Y Felinheli having played three more than their championship rivals.
“Like most people involved in the game locally we are all missing it, but we fully understand the position we are in. In terms of the future we would welcome finishing the current season whenever possible.
“We aren’t in the title race anymore barring something extraordinary, but we do have an opportunity to record our highest finish in this league.
“We are in a better position than most other clubs with only five fixtures remaining so squeezing these in wouldn’t be a big ask for the lads. There are some clubs on the other hand with a lot more games to go which could force the hand of the FAW, time will tell.
“We are keeping spirits high in the squad behind the scenes through social media platforms such as “Snapchat” and “House Party”, that’s been important for us really.
“Public health trumps everything and there will be people facing much more challenging times away from football and it’s important we all remember that.”
