LLANDUDNO Albion are just one game away from another historic feat, which would be another significant milestone in their incredible rise to prominence.
The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One overcame the odds to clinch a penalty shootout victory over Holyhead Hotspur and reach the FAW Trophy final, which is the first time Darren Jones’ men have made it to this stage of the competition.
This represents another remarkable achievement from a club that continues to head in the right direction. They rose through the Welsh domestic pyramid in double-quick time and are now one of the most dangerous teams operating in the third tier.
Their incredible team spirit was especially evident once again during Saturday’s clash at Maes Tegid, which saw them end the Holy Islanders’ hopes of securing a quadruple.
Causing shocks and upsetting the odds is nothing new for an Albion side that continues to perform well above expectations. Although their form has dipped to put them out of the title running, they still find themselves in fifth spot and with realistic hopes of a top-four finish.
Whether they can re-focus their attention to improving their league position ahead of such a landmark tie remains to be seen. They will undoubtedly have one eye on a fixture that could propel the club to new heights and secure national recognition for the first time since their inception.
Their recent high-profile achievements are a testament to how well the club is developing and what can come from passion, dedication, and friendship in the grassroots game. Albion have formed a good relationship with all at JD Cymru North Llandudno and this has stood them in good stead in term of using a first-class facility to aid with their progression through the leagues.
They have a close-knit bond with the community and possess plenty of players within the squad that could possibly play at a higher level. Instead, preference is to play football with friends and not go searching for money higher up the game.
Penydarren are no stranger to cup success and will represent a stern test in the final. They currently occupy seventh in Welsh League Division One but can get themselves into the title picture by winning all their games in hand.
It is going to be another considerable challenge for the Albion squad, but one they should relish and grasp with both hands. Getting to this stage of the FAW Trophy is a great effort in itself, but emerging victorious from the showcase would be another landmark boost for the club on and off the pitch.
There is nothing to suggest Jones’ side cannot come away with the coveted silverware despite the strength of the opposition, and they must show no fear in order to achieve their goals.
