CONWY Borough have released a statement confirming director of football Warren Gibbs’ departure.
The JD Cymru North side confirmed the news reported by The Pioneer earlier today, with Gibbs citing time commitments as the reason behind stepping down.
A Borough spokesman, said: “Borough can confirm that due to time commitments away from football Warren Gibbs has decided step down as Director of Football with immediate effect.
“The club would like to thank Warren for the positive impact that he has had since coming on board in December 2018. He leaves us in a creditable position in the table and we wish him well in the future.
“Everyone at the club is very pleased with the performances in what is a very tough league.
“The players and staff have been first class and we are backing them to finish the campaign in a positive manner whilst looking ahead to maintaining the momentum next season.”
Gibbs replaced Gareth Thomas as first team manager early last season and steered the club to safety in their first campaign back at second tier level following a memorable treble-winning triumph.
He moved into the director of football role last summer as Russ Williams came into the fold, who was subsequently replaced by Chris Morrell.
Borough have not yet made a formal announcement regarding the decision or whether a replacement will be sought.
Gibbs joined Conwy after a hugely successful spell with Glantraeth, which ended after the club’s failure to meet the required criteria from the Football Association of Wales to compete in the Huws Gray Alliance.
A season away from the game followed but Gibbs made a big impact during his time at Y Morfa, masterminding a phenomenal start to the current campaign despite losing a wealth of key squad members during pre-season.
Although Borough’s fortunes have tailed off since, they still lie a respectable seventh in the standings ahead of their trip to Penrhyncoch on Saturday (2.30pm).
