COLWYN Bay manager Craig Hogg praised the contributions of three former Llandudno stars in their dramatic 3-2 win at their Conwy rivals.
The Seagulls’ managed to produce a rousing conclusion to the contest in order to secure three points ahead of their crunch home clash with JD Cymru North leaders Prestatyn Town on New Year’s Day, and Matthew Jones’ side will aim to bounce back at the earliest opportunity in another derby fixture at Conwy Borough on Wednesday.
Hogg, said: “It’s a great result for us against our local rivals, but an honest assessment is that we’ve really made harder work of the game than we should have today.
“For the best part of the first 30 minutes we looked stellar and were rightly 1-0 up. But we’ve then found ourselves trailing 2-1 down in a short space of time and only have ourselves to blame.
“We were at fault for the two goals they scored which put real dampener on events and that massively undid all our good play in the first half.
“The message at half time was to quickly get back to what had worked well for us, and after the opening 10 minutes of the second half, we’ve gone and pretty much dominated the remainder of the game, scoring some good goals to win it in the end.
“I’m happy of course, but giving teams a leg up and making life harder for ourselves is frustrating and it needs to stop.
“Again the lads must take so much credit, but Mike Williams, Joe Chaplin and Toby Jones were all unplayable at times.
“I could single out everyone in different ways, but those lads did so well against their former club.”
A deflected effort from Sion Edwards gave the visitors an early advantage on 17 minutes, but Tudno finished the first half on a high and took a slender lead into the break thanks to goals from talisman Danny Hughes and mercurial forward Alfons Fosu-Mensah.
After the break saw the away side restore parity to the score-line on 65 minutes when Mitch Bryant turned in a Joe Chaplin delivery, and the former Tudno striker went from provider to scorer with 71 on the clock when he unleashed a ferocious left-footed strike into the top corner to decide matters.
