CONWY Borough’s first team manager Chris Morrell said his side’s 2-2 home draw with Flint Town United was further proof they are “building something special”.
The Tangerines snatched a point at the death with ten men against the JD Cymru North title challengers, which came just a few short days after their dramatic comeback at Colwyn Bay.
They are now sitting in sixth spot ahead of their next outing at Llangefni Town on Saturday.
Morrell, said: “Once again, the young lads showed unbelievable spirit to come back with ten men against a very good Flint side.
“I think both teams may have some grievance with a few decisions but that’s football and officials, players and managers all make mistakes.
“To have two fightbacks in one week against such good teams as Colwyn Bay and Flint Town United shows there is something special we are building here, although we do need to be starting games better.
“It was also great to see the young Conwy Borough jackdaws supporting us as mascots.”
The home side got off to the worst possible start when they fell behind on three minutes when Mark Cadwallader headed in a Nathan Brown delivery.
Things went from bad to worse on the quarter hour mark when Brown took advantage of a defensive mix-up to double the away side’s advantage, but the hosts responded well and got themselves back into the tie thanks to an expert free kick from Corrig McGonigle with 22 on the clock.
United had the perfect chance to seal the points when they were awarded a penalty on 29 minutes, but visiting skipper Richie Foulkes’ spot kick was superbly diverted Huw Shaw to keep Borough in the contest.
After the break saw the home side reduced to ten men on 79 minutes when Iolo Hughes was shown a red card, but they continued to press and got their reward when McGonigle took advantage of some hesitant defending to despatch his second of the afternoon and secure a share of the spoils with two remaining.
