PENMAENMAWR Phoenix had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two leaders Gwalchmai despite holding a commanding position in the second period.
The title rivals were involved in a hugely entertaining affair that ended all-square, with Martyn Jones’ side taking a slender advantage into the interval thanks to a fine strike from Daniel Hughes with 19 on the clock.
Things got even better for the visitors after the break when a neat passage of play was finished off by Jonathan Hunt on 63 minutes to double their advantage, but prolific striker Marc Evans ensured a nervy end to proceedings when he halved the deficit with 16 remaining.
The former Llandudno and Melville United standout was on target yet again late on, salvaging a point for the hosts on 81 minutes.
Phoenix now occupy third position in the standings, three points behind Gwalchmai and one back of Y Felinheli.
Llanudno Amateurs picked up a valuable point on their travels as they held championship contenders Kinmel Bay to a 1-1 stalemate.
The home side got off to the best possible start when Sam Roberts put them ahead with just five minutes on the clock, but Sandy Malone’s side upped the tempo following the setback and came away with another encouraging result thanks to a Luke O’Mahoney effort in first half stoppage time.
There was no such for Mochdre Sports, who fell to a 3-0 home loss at the hands of Aberffraw thanks to goals from Gary Boulton, Richard Roberts and Liam Williams, and a solitary George Roberts strike was all Llandudno Junction had to show from their 4-1 reverse at Gaerwen.
