RGC Women produced a positive display before eventually falling to a thrilling 35-27 loss at Cardiff Blues.
The Gogs more than matched their opponents for the majority of their Regional Competition contest, and they fell behind early on when Robyn Williams despatched a penalty for the home side after two minutes.
This resulted in the away side build a number of impressive phases which resulted in the first try of the game courtesy of Rhodd Parry, but this was met by an instant reply as Blues’ star Rafiuke Taylor crossed the white wash to give them a three-point cushion.
A number of handling errors from both sides halted the momentum of the clash midway through the half, but Molly Philpott brought the game to life on 32 minutes with a fine individual run to touch down.
The away side turned on the style during a blistering spell of dominance which began with a superb score from Elinor Isaac that was converted by Iona Evans, before Welsh international Jess Kavanagh-Williams displayed her trademark pace to go over in the corner to give RGC a slender lead.
Blues ended the half on a high when Manan Johnes burst through the Gogs’ rearguard to score, and Millie Williams increased their advantage with the extras.
Taylor started the second period in ruthless form with two more tries in quick succession to seal her hat-trick, and the same player took advantage of RGC’s indiscipline to go over yet again for her fourth which proved to be the difference between the two sides.
A nervy end to proceedings was ensured as Kavanagh-Williams notched her brace late on, but the visitors were unable to create another opportunity and had to settle for a narrow loss.
