RGC extended their perfect start to the Principality Premiership season with a 34-26 win at Swansea.
The Gogs made it two wins from as many contests to open the top-flight campaign after another dazzling attacking display, and Mark Jones’ men will look to make it three on the bounce this Saturday when they host Ebbw Vale (2.30pm).
The visitors made an imposing start on proceedings and they went ahead early on when talented back Tom Hughes broke clear to touch down, with fly-half Billy McBryde adding the extras.
This was swiftly followed by another score courtesy of in-form scrum-half Efan Jones, took advantage of space to cross the whitewash after another period of pressure. McBryde added the extras.
The home side finally begun to stamp their mark on the contest following the setback, and they were rewarded for their improved play when Owen Morgan notched his first ever try for the club that was converted by Foard Cooksley.
Jones’ men bounced back in impressive fashion and restored their cushion thanks to a blistering run and score from Sam Jones, who continues to make great strides after returning to the set-up following a host of injury problems. McBryde drilled the extras.
Rhys Williams dotted over for a converted try just before the break, and the same player was on hand to go over once again after the interval to reduce the arrears. Cooksley fired over both conversion attempts to level matters.
A pair of well-struck penalties from McBryde put the visitors back in the ascendancy midway through the half, and things got even better for the Gogs when Cameron Davies rounded off a fine team move to cross the line. McBryde fired the extras.
The home side ensured a nervy end to proceedings when Paul John powered his way over for an unconverted score late on, but the unbeaten North Wales outfit held firm in the face of stern pressure to extend their 100 per cent opening.
