FORMER RGC star Tom Williams made a surprise return to the field just three weeks after suffering significant facial injuries at the World Rugby 7s Cup.
The talented back is a product of the Gogs’ Academy programme and started for Ospreys in their 26-13 pre-season friendly loss to Northampton Saints.
Williams was at the centre of a huge controversy involving Samoan player Gordon Langkilde, who is facing assault charges for a tunnel incident following Wales’ golden try win at the San Francisco showcase.
He sustained a broken nose and fractured cheekbone after touching down for the all-important try, but has made a superb recovery and recently passed all assessments in accordance with team protocol in order to return to the field at the earliest opportunity.
It promises to be a huge campaign for the former Gog, who has left the Sevens discipline after his World Cup exploits to concentrate on cementing a place in the Ospreys line-up that also includes Anglesey native George North on a more regular basis this season.
Langkilde has pleaded not guilty to three charges of battery and one of assault, and he faces the prospect of four years behind bars if he is convicted.
He is next due in court in the Unites States of America on August 15.
