LLANDUDNO Amateur Boxing Club continued to build on its championship success of 2023 at this year’s 2024 Welsh Amateur Boxing Championships in Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff.
60kg youth boxer Alfie Lewis and 70kg junior boxer Mitchel Jones added to their Welsh titles from last year to take their tally to three each.
Alfie boxed across two weekends, gaining a dominant performance and unanimous win against Michael Gilheaney of Premier Boxing Club (Swansea) in the preliminaries.
He then had two further opponents pull out of the quarter- and semi-final bouts.
In the final, Alfie took on Charlie Andrews, of Jack 2 a King Boxing Club (Swansea).

Alfie gave another dominant performance against a taller opponent, giving him a standing count in the last round and gaining a unanimous win.
Mitchel Jones also boxed across two weekends in the semi-final and the final.
He had a dominant performance and unanimous win over Brian Demirpolat of Trostre Boxing Club in his first contest.
In the final, Mitchel took on Sean Bolger of The Yard Boxing Club (Pembroke).
Mitchel dominated the contest, giving his opponent a standing count in the second round and also gaining a unanimous win.
Meanwhile, Llandudno’s 67kg elite boxer Billie Jones lost out in the Welsh final against Ryan Fry of Briton Ferry Boxing Club.
Billie had two good wins (one by stoppage and one by a unanimous decision) in the prelims and semi-final.
The more experienced Fry used his experience to stay away from the hard-hitting Llandudno boxer to get the points win.
Llandudno’s 86kg elite boxer Gary Richards lost a controversial split decision against last year’s champion Joshua Mellor of Cardigan Boxing Club.
Alfie and Mitchel, who are both in the Welsh Boxing development squad, can now look forward to representing Wales in the GB finals in June.
Alfie will also head off to Hungary for an international tournament in two weeks’ time.
