A TEENAGER in Llandudno broke two Welsh powerlifting records at an event last month.

Mackenzie Parker-Pierce, 17, competed at the Powerlifting Junior and Sub-junior Championships at Gymshark Lifting Club in Solihull on March 23.

He achieved second place in the UK, and broke two Welsh records (240kg squat - 10kg on a seven-year standing Welsh record – 142.5kg bench, 260 kg deadline, and 642.5kg total - another Welsh record broken).

Mackenzie, who has trained mostly on his own at his home gym for the last three years, was supported at the Solihull event by his parents.

His mum, Jodi, said: “He hasn’t got a coach, unlike most of the other lifters – he does it all himself. He trains every day.

“The Solihull event was amazing; he’s very eager when he sets his mind to something

“He’s gone up a weight class, as well – he did under-83s last year, but under-93s this year. He’s also perfected his lifting, so he’s really upped his game.

“Since the competition, he’s had a couple of people reach out about potentially sponsoring him, so I think he’s really got that fire back in him now.”

Mackenzie’s grandmother, Gaynor, added: “He worked so hard and I felt it was quite an achievement, considering 90 per cent of his training he has done himself in his little home gym in Llandudno, with no official trainer.”
