THERE was a very good turn-out of members from North Wales Road Runners Club (NWRRC) at the annual Felinheli 10k race last Wednesday (July 3).
Martin Green was back to his best and he finished in second place overall and won his F40 age cat in style in just 35 minutes and 34 seconds.
He was one of five club runners amongst 21 entrants, who claimed podium places, including three age category wins, and two third place finishes.
Will Evans was pleased with 20th place in 41.03, and he was fourth in his F40 cat.
Stuart Culverhouse on top form in 28th place in 42.14, and he was third in his F50 cat, whilst Iwan Evans was 31st in 42.51, but he was chased all the way by club newcomer Benjamin Brummitt who enjoyed a fine run in 32nd place in 42.56.
Carla Green won her F50 age cat, and she was the fourth female finisher with an excellent time of 43.16, and James Jones recorded another positive display in 41st place in 43.48, with Sion Thomas also on form in 44th place in 44.23.
Adam Lemalle continues to improve, and he celebrated a new PB in 44.36 in 46th place, with veteran Kevin Slattery 53rd, and fourth in his F60 age cat in 45.20.
Steve Roberts was 64th in 45.57, and master vet Sandy Johnston finished 78th, and he also won his F70 cat in 47.31.
Meanwhile, Ben Hudson – despite still recovering from his recent ultra-event - ran well in 83rd place in 47.51, whilst his wife Sarah Hudson, who was also battling with heavy legs, was pleased to finish close behind Ben as the 16th female, and 5th in her F40 cat in 47.59.
Nicola Wylie made a welcome return to racing as the 37th female and third in her F50 cat in 52.04, with Hannah Griffith the 50th female in 53.43.
Master vet Rob Fryer was the fourth F70 athlete in 141st place in 54.45, with Nia Lister the 78th female runner in 58.27.
Master veteran Mike Hayton performed well again in 169th place in 1.02.19, with Gwen Charlton the 111th female runner in 1.05.01, and Rachel Morris finished in 1.12.35 as the 126th female.
Five championship medals for five Road Runners at Fairy Freckled Cow race
Five Road Runners successfully competed in the Fairy Freckled Cow Trail Race on Sunday (July 7), which was a very challenging 10.7k race around Llyn Alwen Reservoir and formed part of the North Wales Trail Race Championships, with each member collecting a prestigious medal.
Stuart Culverhouse led the NWRRC team home, and he was delighted to collect a deserved gold medal after finishing 14th overall and he won his M50 age cat in 47 minutes and 26 seconds.
Cheryl Frost also had a very good run, finishing in 34th place, and second in her F55 cat in 56.25 to win a silver medal, and Nicola Wylie celebrated winning a bronze medal in third place in the same age cat as Cheryl, finishing in 39th place in 60.54.
Master vets Rob Fryer and Mike Hayton also won championship medals with Rob collecting a silver medal in second place in his M70 cat and 48th overall in 63.49, with Mike 68th and third in the same age cat as Rob in 72.47 for a welcome bronze medal.
Richard makes a successful debut in the Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon
Road Runner Richard Scamans took part in his first ever Triathlon event at the weekend in rather wet conditions.
But he was pleased with his overall performance and completed a swim, run, cycle, and final dash in a respectable time of 1 hour, 52 minutes and eight seconds.
Richard entered the challenging Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon and he finished 97th out of 147 finishers, and he was the 54th male athlete, and 15th in his respective super-vet age category.
After the event he confirmed: “Pleased to get round in one piece in the damp conditions, although I was obviously wet from the swim, so it didn't affect me too much.
“Anyone wanting to do a triathlon, I would definitely recommend this one for first timers or for experienced athletes.
“Thank you for all the encouragement today and advice in the lead up to today.”
Six age cat wins for Road Runners at a very wet Conwy parkrun
It was tough morning at the Conwy parkrun last Saturday (July 6) for both athletes and volunteers, with wind, rain, and a waterlogged course adding to the usual challenges of this 5k dash.
The conditions kept the number of entrants well down to just 136 brave souls who opted to turn out on such a horrible day, but 11 NWRCC members took full advantage of the conditions, with every runner either winning, or finishing in the top-three of their respective age categories.
And Mark Jesset was delighted to be the first man home overall, led the team, and he was one of six age cat winners on the day, recording a very good time of just 18 minutes and 38 seconds to additionally win his VM35 cat over this swamp-like course from the RSPB Nature Reserve to Deganwy and back.
Steve Mason was 10th, and he won his MV45 cat in 20.32, with Carla Green finishing as the second female athlete, 12th overall, and she won her VW50 cat in 21.20.
Harry Driscoll finished 13th in 21.38, and he was third in his SM20 cat, and young Joe Culverhouse quite remarkably claimed a new course PB of 21.58 in 21st place and won his JM11-14 cat.
Stuart Culverhouse was 24th in 22.12 and he took the second spot in his VM50 cat, with Steve Bozier back at Conwy parkrun with an excellent run in 22.36, and he finished in 27th place and third in his VM45 age cat.
Super-vet Sandy Johnston won his VM75 cat with a strong run in 46th place in 25.19, and Hannah Griffith enjoyed her dash with a splash, finishing 61st in 26.45, and she was second in her VW50 cat.
Master vet Rob Fryer was 68th in 27.40, and won his VM70 cat, with veteran John O’Shea finished second in his VM65 cat in 93rd place in 30.28.
