NORTH Wales Road Runners Club (NWRRC)’s Martin Green hit the track running in midweek at Bury in North Manchester to record a new personal best time in his 3,000m race.
He finished in fourth place overall on a track with rivals in his T-8 event, race 2, with an impressive time of just nine minutes 33.43 seconds, whilst representing Welsh Masters.
And it was a very good effort too from Martin’s colleague Will Williams in the 1,500m race at Bury which was also part of the Trafford AC series, and he really had a go but gradually ran out of steam on the last lap after leading the race.
Road Running duo tackle the gruelling Snowdon Twilight race
A couple of Road Runners took to the hills, or rather to the mountain last Friday night, to take part in the gruelling Scott Sports Snowdon Twilight race.
This was an extremely tough, challenging, but well-organised uphill race that started from the road opposite the Royal Victoria Hotel, and followed the Llanberis Path to the Summit of Snowdon.
Charlotte Rose Wilton Jones and Phil Moss competed well with Charlotte in 50th place overall out of 68 eventual finishers, and she was the 17th female athlete and 6th in her F-Open age category with a good time of 1hr 12 mins and 43 secs.
Phil gave chase to Charlotte all the way and he was 52nd overall, and 4th in his VM60 age cat in 1hr 13mins 9 secs.
Busy in the drizzle for over 200 parkrunners at Conwy
Just more than 200 entrants took part in a rather drizzly Conwy parkrun last Saturday morning at the RSPB Nature Reserve, which again attracted a good number of tourists and visiting club and social runners from around the UK.
NWRRC only had seven members in action this week due to holidays and other commitments, but they still recorded three age victories and two second place results.
Mark Jessett was in good form and narrowly finished in 2nd place overall, but he certainly gave the runaway leader Nathan Williams, a strong challenge from the turn-around point, and in the end, he was just 10-seconds adrift.
Mark however, won his VM35 age cat in 18.22, with colleague Steve Mason running well in 4th place, and he was 2nd in his VM45 cat in 19.52.
Steve Roberts finished well in 24th place overall in 22.36, and super-vet Sandy Johnson was back to his best with another fine performance in 23.39, finishing 33rd overall, and he won his VM75 age cat.
Master vet Don Hale enjoyed an injury free outing in 65th place, and he too won his VM70 cat in 26.20.
Fellow master Rob Fryer finished 2nd in the same age cat as Don in 97th place overall, in 28.23, and veteran John O’Shea was 127th in 29.31, and 4th in his VM65 cat.
Other parkrun results:
*Llangefni: A quartet of talented Road Runners travelled to Llangefni on Anglesey to take part in the Nant y Pandy parkrun last Saturday and they collected three age cat victories, plus a great new PB for Carla Green.
And it was good to see that Carla was also the 1st female finisher, finishing 6th overall, and she won her VW50 age cat, whilst recording an excellent PB time of 21.28.
Cheryl Frost was also in fine form in 15th place, and she finished as the 3rd female, and won her VW55 cat on her course debut in 24.35.
Fellow debutant Kay Hatton was 21st overall, the 6th female finisher, and she ensured NWRRC completed a hat-trick of deserved age cat wins, after winning her VW60 cat in 25.30.
Elizabeth Driscoll also had another positive run and finished well in 62nd place in 33.45, and in 5th place in her VW55 age cat.
*Bala: Young Joe Culverhouse and his father Stuart made both won their respective age cats at the Pont y Bala parkrun last Saturday and recorded some fast times on their debuts.

*Soham: Gethin Wyn Jones made his debut at the Soham Village College parkrun, and he finished in 33rd place overall with a steady run in 27.19.
