THERE was a good turnout from North Wales Road Runners Club (NWRRC) among a quality entry of about 300 top club and social runners at the Y Felinheli 10km race last Wednesday night (June 28).
Despite a hilly and undulating course, and run mainly over rough tracks, forest trails, and some normally restricted private roads, many athletes still reported personal best times on another warm and humid evening.
NWRRC recorded six podium places including one age cat win, four second places, and one third, with Martin Green leading 21 members home in seventh place in 34.33, and he was third in his MV40 age cat.
He was closely followed by Jonathan Kettle, who finished ninth in 35.08, with Will Williams 21st, and second place in his MV50 age cat in 38.13.
Club newcomer Tom Aindow ran well in 35th place in 40.04, with Stuart Culverhouse 45th in 41.22, and he was just three seconds and one place ahead of Iwan Evans in 41.25.
And another newcomer, William Evans finished 56th in 42.56, ahead of Ben Hudson 61st in 43.15, with Steve Roberts 81st in 44.57, and Sion Thomas was 83rd in 45.23.
Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson Hudson celebrated another good performance in 85th place, and she finished second in her FV40 age cat in 45.37.
Endurance and top fell runner Karl Morris claimed 97th place in 46.09, and Nicola Wylie was on top form again in 136th place, and she also finished second in her MV50 cat in 49.46.
Kelly Marie Alford ran a new PB in 153rd place in 51.05, with her partner Cai Roberts finishing in 161st place in 51.36, and Hannah Griffith was 191st in 53.37.
Helen Hannam was pleased to finish in 203rd place in 54.38, with Kevin Higgins claiming 212th place in 55.15.
Master veteran Mark Mason won his MV70 age cat with an excellent run in 220th place in 56.17, and fellow master Mike Hayton also enjoyed a positive run in 246th place, and he was second MV70 cat in 59.53, with Vicky Taylor 262nd in 1.02.56, and Rachel Morris 272nd in 1.06.33.
Other race results
Falkland Islands: NWRRC member and RAF Flight Controller Elizabeth Driscoll ran in the Mount Pleasant parkrun last Saturday on the Falkland Islands and won her VW55-59 age cat finishing 10th overall and the second female runner with her best parkrun time since about June last year of 25.53.
This was her third appearance on the trot at this venue, and previously Elizabeth has taken part in the alternative Cape Pembroke Lighthouse parkrun.
Last weekend also marked an improvement in her previous times, and afterwards she confirmed: “Finally got our new parkrun sign. It’s officially the most southerly in the world! A bit breezy and muddy this morning but at least all the snow has gone.”
Blackpool: Nicola Wylie visited breezy Blackpool last weekend and enjoyed a quick dash in their parkrun. She finished as the fourth female athlete and won her VW55 age cat on her debut in 24.30.
Liverpool: Kevin Higgins ran in the rather windy and hilly Stanley Park 10k over three laps last Sunday and finished in 115th place overall out of 257 entrants, and he was fourth in his MV60 age cat in 53.15.
Fast times despite being cool and breezy at Conwy parkrun
It was rather cool and breezy at Conwy parkrun last Saturday (July 1) but it still failed to deter another bumper attendance which also included a host of top club runners and enthusiastic visitors from many parts of the UK.
Two new names were registered as the first- and second-placed finishers at Conwy.
Aled Hughes took the plaudits with an excellent and determined run, especially given the blustery conditions, as the first male finisher in 18 minutes and second seconds, to win his MV35 age cat.
He was closely followed by rival Dave Hughes, who finished second in the same age cat as Aled, and he was only seven seconds adrift despite a new PB of 18.13, with Will Williams (NWRRC) finishing third overall, and the first MV50 cat winner in 18.37.
GOG Triathlete Vicky Cole was the first female runner, finishing 12th overall, with a superb run of 21 minutes and 41 seconds to win her VW40 age cat.
She was almost a minute ahead of her rival Gemma Moore (Eryri Harriers), who amazingly recorded a great time of 22.37, despite pushing a child buggy around this challenging and windswept 5k course in 22nd place overall, and second VW40 cat.
Parkrun debutant Katie Wood gave Gemma a hard chase but eventually had to settle for the third female spot in 22.51 but won her SW25 age cat.
There were 229 finishers.
Will Williams led a team of 10 NWRRC home with another very positive performance ahead of colleague Steve Forsyth, who was fourth, and won his MV40 cat in 19.45, with Jamie Tharme 14th overall in 21.47, and second in his MV45 cat.
Kay Hatton ran well again to win her VW60 age cat in 24.12, finishing 46th overall, and the sixth female athlete.
Meanwhile master veteran Mark Mason was another cat winner in 87th place, and first in his MV70 cat in 26.51, and he was narrowly ahead of improving fellow master Don Hale, who was 92nd in 27.12, and second in the same age cat as Mark.
Veteran John O’Shea was 108th in 28.02, and he claimed the third spot in his MV65 age cat, with another master veteran Mike Hayton finishing 122nd in 28.35, to clinch the third cat place, and ensure it was a clean sweep of the MV70 section for the club.
Veteran Rob Fryer unfortunately had an off day but bravely battled on to finish in 158th place in 30.38, with Rachel Morris 178th in 33.28.
