POTENTIAL new members are being invited to join Llanfairfechan Croquet Club with an “intro to croquet” evening in May.

The club, whose “Seagulls” team won the Welsh Croquet Association golf croquet team competition in September, are inviting anyone interested in joining to attend on Wednesday, May 4 between 4-8pm at its West Shore base.

This is followed by the club’s open day, which will take place on Saturday, May 7 from 1pm.

Giles Pepperell, of Llanfairfechan Croquet Club, said: “Numbers will be limited, so anyone interested should email llancroquet@gmail.com to book a place with our club secretary.

“It was that event that I attended last year, and joined following!

“Last September, at Llanidloes Croquet Club, Llanfairfechan and North Wales Croquet Club’s ‘Seagulls’ team beat Glamorgan ‘Reds’ to win the John Evans Trophy – the Welsh Croquet Association’s golf croquet (GC) Team Championship – following the Northern heats at Llanfairfechan.

“Things are essentially repeated this year, with the Northern heats again at Llanfairfechan but on Saturday, July 30, with Craig-y-Don, Llanidloes and Llanfairfechan clubs all expected to put forward teams on a busy and exciting day.

“The new season has already started, with some play in the warm sunshine of the opening weekend, but the official club opening is 1.30pm on Sunday, April 17, with an open day on Saturday, May 7 from 1pm when all are welcome.”
