TWO first half goals saw Colwyn Bay FC reach the quarter-finals of the JD Welsh Cup with a 2-0 home win over Barry Town United.
Despite facing the strong wind in the first half, Bay controlled much of the play with Jamie Cummings having a shot deflected narrowly wide.
The Seagulls took the lead inside 20 minutes, Alex Downes firing a shot into the bottom corner from Tommy Creamer’s cross following a corner.
Udi Akpan should have made it 2-0 but fired over the bar when Tommy Creamer broke one on one with the keeper and squared the ball to him.
Barry keeper Luc Rees saved from Jamie Cummings, and Tommy Creamer fired a shot over the bar, before Bay finally doubled their lead five minutes before half-time.
Good attacking play saw Dan Jones play a lovely one-two with Udi Akpan and rifled a shot past the keeper.
Udi might have added a third but his fierce shot struck Callum Sainty in the face, forcing the Barry player to be substituted.
In the second half Barry tried to get back into the game, but Bay managed the to see out the game well.
Towards the end, Luc Rees produced a fine save to deny Udi Akpan the goal his overall play deserved.
Colwyn Bay FC are now away at Cardiff Met University in the quarter-finals in February.
