COLWYN Bay FC will no longer host Liverpool’s under-21s this weekend after the friendly between the two teams was cancelled.

The pre-season match had been due to take place at Colwyn Bay’s home ground, the 4 Crosses Construction Arena, on Saturday (July 29).

But the Bay said Liverpool informed the club that, due to a number of their under-21 players receiving first team call-ups, the game could no longer go ahead.

Colwyn Bay apologised for the inconvenience and re-assured fans who had already bought tickets that they could receive refunds in due course.

A statement from Colwyn Bay FC read: “Unfortunately, Saturday’s friendly against Liverpool under-21s has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control.

“Liverpool have informed us that a number of their under-21 players have been called up to the senior team.

“Details on refunds will be given shortly, but we understand how disappointed fans will be that the game has been cancelled.”

The friendly had initially been confirmed in May, after Colwyn Bay were crowned JD Cymru North champions a month earlier.

Colwyn Bay will compete in the Cymru Premier, the top tier of Welsh football, for the first time in their history this season.
