COLWYN Bay FC have secured the Cymru North title and sealed promotion to the Cymru Premier for the first time in the club's history.

The Seagulls won 2-0 at Penrhyncoch on Good Friday while title rivals Holywell Town were beaten 2-1 at home by Llandudno.

Craig Lindfield set the Bay on their way at Penrhyncoch with a goal in the first half.

Bay could and should have added to their tally but had to wait until late in the game to seal victory.

Matty Hill scored from the penalty spot for Bay’s 100th league goal of what has been a memorable campaign.

The Bay’s title win was finally confirmed when former player Marc Willliams scored a late winner to finally end Holywell’s title challenge.

“Through the history, the ups and downs, today’s a good day for everybody involved with Colwyn Bay,” Bay manager Steve Evans said.

“It’s brilliant. I’d like to thank my players. They’ve given me everything from start to finish. If you do the work, good things will come your way.”

Victory at Penrhyncoch marked a memorable 24 hours for the club after they were awarded a Football Association of Wales (FAW) Tier One licence for the 2023-24 season that will allow the club to compete in the Cymru Premier.

The Old Colwyn-based club returned to Welsh football in 2019 having played in the English pyramid system for 35 years, with the club reaching the National League North.

“This is a momentous decision for the club and one that rewards the hard work of club officials and volunteers not just this season, but also since we returned to the Welsh system in 2019," Colwyn Bay chairman Neil Coverley said.

“And without the support of the local community, we would not have been able to achieve this. There’s plenty of work between now and next season, not least finishing this season on a high.

“But we look forward to what will be a new challenge and a new chapter in the club’s history."

The club have averaged crowds of more than 600 for home games this season, the highest in the Cymru Leagues.

Work on a new 1,000-seater stand at the 4 Crosses Construction Arena is nearing completion, which will take the ground's seating capacity to more than 1,800.
