THE FAMILY of a man from Llandudno who died last month have paid tribute to the “highly respectable” and “extremely sociable” figure he was.
John Stanley Baxendale Breeze, affectionately known as Sir John or Breezy, passed away at the age of 82 on November 18, 2024.
A popular figure in Llandudno, he had attended Dyffryn Road Primary School and John Bright Grammar School in his younger years.
A huge sports fan, he was a promising tennis and football player in his youth, having trials at Everton and playing a couple of games for their reserve side.
Mr Breeze went on to become a chartered accountant, and started his own accountancy firm in Llandudno, Breeze & Co.
He eventually sold the business when he partially retired, with its name remaining, and John continued to work part time for the business until fully retiring aged 80.
An elected lifetime member of Llandudno Cricket Club (twice over), he was the club’s first XI captain for several seasons and later served as chairman.
His love of sport stretched far, and Mr Breeze also represented the town in hockey and was a keen social member of Llandudno Rugby Club, following the club on tours and to Wales international fixtures.
He also played badminton for Stella Maris Club in local leagues, such was his appetite for competition.
In a loving tribute, his family said: “John loved nothing more than a good ‘debate’ about things, sport and politics being his favourite topics. He also loved telling jokes, usually terrible ones!
“He was extremely sociable and had many friends in many walks of life.
“He loved a nice glass of pinot in Wetherspoon’s with his friends and loved his Sunday lunches in LC’s in Llandudno.
“He leaves his sister Win, two nieces whom he was very close to, a further niece and nephew, three children and three grandchildren and his late sister Sally.”
Llandudno Rugby Club said of John: “The passing of one of Llandudno’s and life's characters will be felt by many and his memory will be recalled with a smile and fondness.”
Llandudno Cricket Club said he would be “greatly missed”, adding that he was one of the club’s “staunchest and most passionate supporters”.
John Breeze’s funeral will take place at 2.45pm on Thursday, 12 December at Mochdre Crematorium, and the wake will be held at Llandudno Rugby Club.
The family has said that only family flowers will be allowed, and that any donations be made to St David's Hospice in Llandudno.
