A MAN from Colwyn Bay breached his suspended sentence by drinking alcohol while he was on a tag.
Ryan Birchall, 30, of Lawson Road, was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, in July after being convicted of assault by beating and breaching a restraining order.
But at Caernarfon Crown Court today (December 4), he admitted that he failed to comply with his monitored alcohol abstinence order between October 27 and 29.
Though, Judge Timothy Petts refrained from activating Birchall’s suspended sentence.

Simon Killeen, representing Birchall, said that, since his conviction, he has lost his employment as a landscaper.
Mr Killeen said Birchall consumed alcohol after a “particularly distressing sequence of events”, which he dealt with “extremely badly”.
He said Birchall, who is in receipt of approximately £600 a month in benefits, had “disengaged” with the probation service, but has “since re-engaged”.
Presiding over today’s hearing, Judge Petts ordered Birchall to complete five additional rehabilitation activity requirement days, and pay £125 in probation costs.
But he warned Birchall: “If you’re back here before me or one of my colleagues for a further breach, you’d be very lucky to be walking out of the front door afterwards.”
