A BODY found during the search for a man missing in the River Conwy area has now been formally identified as 75-year-old Brian Perry.
Mr Perry’s body was discovered in the Trefriw area on Sunday (November 24), after he was first reported missing on Saturday.
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: We can confirm that the body discovered in the Trefiw area on Sunday, November 24 has now been formally identified as 75-year-old Brian Perry, who we circulated as missing over the weekend.
“His family have been informed and are being supported by officers. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
Mr Perry’s body was located in the area of Gower Road, Trefriw.
He had last been seen at about 4pm on Saturday, walking his dog while wearing a red Berghaus waterproof jacket.
Extensive searches were carried out to find Mr Perry, involving the fire service, police, ambulance service, and a Coastguard helicopter.
Chief Inspector Simon Kneale, of North Wales Police, said: “I would like to thank the efforts of all agencies involved in the searches in very difficult conditions and for the local community who supported the teams in the area.
“Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time and they have asked that their privacy is respected."
Police said the area in question had been affected by "significant floodwater" amid Storm Bert.
A Welsh Government spokesperson said: "As the focus moves to recovery, it is important that those affected receive ongoing support and we will play our part alongside our partners in delivering that.
"Despite the significant impacts, it appears that flood defences played a role in protecting many homes and businesses, and we will continue our investment programme to make communities even more resilient to severe weather events in future."
