A RHYL-based construction firm has been fined almost £5,000 for breaching trading standards regulations.
James Taylor, trading as JMR Building, was found guilty of a breach of Regulation 19 of Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
The defendant did not attend the hearing, at Llandudno Magistrates Court on October 29, and the case was proved in his absence.
Mr Taylor was fined £1,100, ordered to pay £369.45 costs, a victim surcharge of £440.00, and compensation to the victim in the sum of £2,950.00.

This is a total of £4,859.45, to be paid in full within 28 days.
JMR Building failed to provide a consumer with guidance and a notice of their right to cancel the works before they began, prompting Conwy County Borough Council Trading Standards Officers to pursue the business and place a case before the Court under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Cllr Geoff Stewart, Conwy’s cabinet member for neighbourhood and the environment, said: “As an authority we have a duty of care to protect our residents.
"This outcome highlights the hard work undertaken by Conwy Trading Standards Officers in applying the regulations to protect Conwy consumers."
