A FORMER social club on Llandudno's West Shore will be demolished to make way for apartments.
The old West Shore Social Club building, on Bryniau Road, will make way for the construction of 12 residential units (across three floors) after a planning application was approved by Conwy Council’s planning committee.
Described as a “dilapidated” building in the proposal, the social club has lay empty for several years, with efforts for housing to replace the site dating back to 1998.
Now, the social club, which has asbestos on the site, will be knocked down to make room for “modern and innovative” one and two bedroom apartments, in an effort to “provide a sustainable solution to the need for modern apartment living in Llandudno.”

Behind the development is William Ward, a director of Cynwyd Enterprises – the company operates the Cae Mor Hotel in Llandudno.
Replanting is also part of the proposal, seeking to increase biodiversity in the region with the creation of a public space, while providing easier access and more parking for disabled people, pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles and emergency vehicles.
Regarding the demolition of the existing site, the proposal states: “The existing buildings on site have fallen into a state of disrepair and falls significantly short of modern standards.
“The chosen design approach therefore proposes a new build as this presents the best opportunity to deliver an exemplar scheme that makes efficient use of land whilst retaining the generous landscaping and providing much-needed dwellings.”
The application was supported by Llandudno Town Council, following a public consultation.
