Work is set to begin this week to refurbish Llanrwst Family Centre.

The improvements have been made possible thanks to funding from the Welsh Government’s Health and Social Care Integration and Rebalancing Capital Fund (IRCF).

Based at Church House, Watling Street, the Family Centre has supported hundreds of families since 2003 and provided a space for agencies like Welfare Rights and School Nursing.

Conwy County Borough Council bought the building in July and, in September, got more funds from the Welsh Government for refurbishment.

Minister for Children and Social Care, Dawn Bowden, said: "This is a fantastic facility already making a great difference to the lives of hundreds of families in North Wales.

"I’m pleased that our investment of over £600,000 from the Integration and Rebalancing Capital Fund (IRCF) will help the Centre to grow and continue their wide range of essential services to the community, and I look forward to seeing how these improvements will expand and rejuvenate this vital facility."

The refurbishment will include reconfiguring the layout to make better use of the space, improving accessibility, and replacing windows to improve energy efficiency, with work is expected to take about six months.

Councillor Penny Andow, Conwy’s cabinet member for integrated adult and community services, said: "The refurbishment work will allow the Centre to extend the services we offer to our families, and increase the opportunities for partnership working.

"We’re grateful for the Welsh Government funding to make this possible, and we look forward to welcoming all our families back into the new-look Centre next year."

While the work is being carried out, the Family Centre’s activities and services will continue at other locations.
