A BAR in Colwyn Bay which closed earlier this year could be set to reopen after a new custodian was found.

Briggs Wine Bar, at 2 Penrhyn Road, closed in March after a blockage of its main waste pipe, which the owners admitted "didn't look like that's going to change any time soon."

The bar was opened at the old Glass Lounge site in 2018 by Kathryn Doyland and Hayley Walker, with Stephen Jay joining the group.

In September, the owners confirmed its permanent closure in a move that “broke their hearts”, caused by the financial impact of the closure and insurance problems.

However, there could be new life at the bar, with Briggs saying a “custodian” had been found – a “lovely regular” will be taking on the business.

The bar will also open as a café in the daytime, before becoming a bar in the evenings.

In a notice to customers on social media, the business said: “Well, the most important thing is that we get Briggs in some form or another back open again as soon as possible.

Which means we need to find the next custodian for our wonderful little corner of Colwyn Bay - and the good news is we've already found them!

“One of our lovely regulars will be taking over from where we left off (albeit with flushing toilets!) - they love Briggs just as much as you lot so we're confident that we're leaving both the bar and you guys in safe hands.

“And if that wasn't enough, they're going to be open as a coffee shop in the daytime again as well as evenings.

“We'll be able to tell you more and introduce you to the new owners very soon, so keep your eyes peeled for updates.

“And what about us, you say? Well, we might finally get to properly enjoy the bar we created.

“It's fair to say you'll probably find us drinking on your side of the bar in the not too distant future.”
