A NEW Colwyn Bay-based “home boarding” business for dogs, set up by a woman in memory of her own Border Collie, is now fully booked until January.
Mandy Kormi, 52, launched Layla’s Place six weeks ago, named after her own dog, who she spent nearly 16 years with.
She would often be seen walking Layla along Rhos-on-Sea promenade every morning in a pram due to her dog’s osteoarthritis.
Bookings can be made by emailing mandy.kormi@icloud.com, or by visiting www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565378139430.
Her business serves Colwyn Bay and the surrounding areas, and has already hosted a variety of breeds – including greyhounds, cockapoos, and chihuahuas - and more than 20 meet-and-greets.
"It’s been incredible," Mandy said.
"The one-family rule gives owners peace of mind, knowing their pets get one-on-one attention."
Updates via WhatsApp with pictures and videos have been a hit with clients, many of whom are rebooking.
She told the Pioneer in September: “I have walked, and even ran half-marathons, with Layla, whatever the weather, joined by various dog owners.
“Obviously, seeing a Collie looking alert in a pram raised a few eyebrows and got lots of attention - she was well-loved by everyone in the area.
“I have been helping friends with their dog-walking duties (since Layla’s death) as I needed to fill a gap after the last 15 years, but have now decided to create Layla’s Place.
“My husband and I have just returned from our first holiday in two years. We were unable to travel together as we couldn’t leave her with anyone when her legs declined, and couldn’t bear to put her in kennels.”
Mandy aims to provide dogs with a “secure and spacious environment”, complete with a fully enclosed acre of land, where they can run freely.
Regular beach or country walks are part of the routine, while Mandy also offers the option of sending dog owners regular pictures and videos, so they can feel assured that their put is enjoying their stay.
There will never be more than two dogs boarding at any given time, meanwhile.
