A popular community pantomime is celebrating a decade of sell-out shows.

The Betws-y-Coed Pantomime Group is planning a special 10th-anniversary production of Beauty and the Beast, with all proceeds going to a children's hospice.

The show will be held at the village's Memorial Hall at 7pm on December 6 and 7 and there will be a 1pm matinee on the Saturday.

This is to ensure children can attend without disrupting their bedtime routines.

Liz Harrison-Watson, who performs and coordinates the event, said: "My first year with the group was in 2019, when we performed Dick Whittington.

"Since then, as well as acting in the panto I’ve also become the coordinator and have taken on more of the organising."

Ms Harrison-Watson said: "We’ve not performed Beauty & the Beast and we now have costumes and technological ability to do it justice.

"Although it is set in the French countryside, there is the odd nod to Betws as well!

"As it is our tenth anniversary, and due to sell out shows each year, this time we are offering three performances, to include a Saturday afternoon matinee.

Ms Harrison-Watson said: "Everybody gives up their time and is committed to providing a high standard of show."

The group has always supported Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospice, which cares for life-threatened children and their families in North Wales.

Ms Harrison-Watson said: "Tŷ Gobaith is such a valuable, life changing resource to have in the local area, and we know how important fundraising is."

The group is supported by a local mystery match-funder, who they call their White Knight, who matches whatever money they raise each year.

Andy Everley, fundraising team leader for the children’s hospice, said: "This is a momentous year for the pantomime group, one that will see them exceed the £30,000 mark in their fundraising for us.

"We are so grateful to all of the crew, the amazing match-funder, and everybody who attends the performances."

Tickets, priced at £8 for adults and £4 for children, are available from the Spar shop in Betws-y-Coed or the Health Food Shop in Llanrwst.
