A Rhos-on-Sea catering student has won a prestigious award.

Bethan Edwards, a 17-year-old student at Llandrillo College in Rhos-on-Sea, has been recognised by the Rotary Club of Rhyl.

The award, presented annually for more than 25 years to the most outstanding student.

Bethan, from Rhyl, is among the youngest nominees and was chosen in her first year, studying Level One Professional Cookery, competing against students of all ages at the college.

Senior lecturer Mike Garner said: "We decided to nominate Bethan for the award after deliberation amongst the staff because of her positive, 'get stuck in' attitude; she is very conscientious in all her studies and her attendance last year was nearly 100 per cent.

"She has volunteered to help out on large functions, is very keen to improve her skills, and is often found supporting her peers and helping out where needed.

"Bethan is a really pleasant, polite young person who shows a great deal of respect for her peers and tutors alike, with a 'can-do' attitude that will take her a long way.

"She is an outstanding, dedicated and skilled student who has all the attributes to become a really excellent chef."

"I am a very proud Mum."

"We offer our congratulations and wish her every success in the future."
