A SEAFRONT hotel in Llandudno has announced it is now dog-friendly for overnight stays – a move which has put some people off.

St George’s Hotel, on the town’s promenade, confirmed on social media yesterday (October 28) that customers could now include their dogs as part of their stay, with dog-friendly rooms catered to four-legged guests.

Dogs would add a charge of £25 to your stay, with dog owners encouraged to book in advance.

However, the news has not gone down all too well with visitors to the hotel, with one accusing the hotel of becoming “like Crufts”.

Another claimed the hotel had “cheapened itself”, adding: “Terrible decision, a previously high quality hotel going down this route is a mistake.

“The obsession with people taking their dogs on holiday is relatively new and unwelcome phenomenon. Dogs make many people feel uneasy, apart from the hygiene issues. A hotel stay is meant to be relaxing.”

One person commented that the move had “put them right off”, with another confirming “they won’t be coming again”.

Another added that they were “going to pay you a visit but not now”, while somebody said “not everybody is a lover of dogs in a first class hotel”.

One customer warned that the decision had “endangered [the hotel’s] exclusivity”, and that it was a “big no from them in future”.

Another customer said that while they “love all animals”, dogs should not be “in such a prestigious hotel”.

There were also concerns at how the policy would affect those with allergic to dogs.

Others backed the hotel, with one social media user saying, “fantastic news, we love the hotel but have difficulty in getting a dog sitter, so this is perfect”.

One person, who works in hospitality, called the backlash “over the top” and said “the state some humans leave the rooms is absolutely disgusting - give me a dog any day”.

A third person defended the hotel, saying dog-friendly policies were a “great idea”, especially for those that rely on dogs.

A spokesperson for St George’s Hotel said: “St George’s Hotel is now dog-friendly for overnight stays! Bring your four-legged friend along to experience the beauty of Llandudno together.

“To ensure your dog has a cosy, tailored space, bookings must be made in advance, as dog-friendly rooms and space are limited to protect the enjoyment of humans and furry guests. Dogs are charged at £25 per night.

“With lots of North Wales beaches now dog friendly from October – March, there has never been a better time to enjoy a seaside escape with your paw-fect pals.

“We can’t wait to welcome you and your pups for a memorable seaside stay.”
