A Tudor dance troupe from Conwy has won a prestigious volunteering award.

The group, based at Plas Mawr, was recognised by the British Museum and the Marsh Charitable Trust for their efforts in bringing museum learning to life.

The group, who formed before Covid and are aged between 50 and 84, were named as the Welsh winners for this year.

Plas Mawr, which means Great Hall, is a well-preserved Elizabethan townhouse situated in the heart of Conwy.

The 400-year-old-plus building is now under the care of Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, and welcomes around 18,000 visitors each year.

The dance troupe showcases their Tudor dance moves at the mansion house four times each season during Plas Mawr’s "Meet the Household" events.

They also hold weekly rehearsal sessions at the monument and display their handmade costumes as part of the visitor experience.

Over the past 18 months, the volunteers have extended their performances beyond the walls of Plas Mawr.

They have been visiting schools and local groups, sharing their knowledge of the mansion's heritage and demonstrating their Henry VIII-era pavanes and gavottes.
