HALF a century after it last hosted a sermon, Llandundo's Tin Tabernacle has become a place of worship once again - for one day only.

The congregation from Queen's Road Church returned to their original home - a prefab metal structure which is now the Troop Cafe on Mostyn Broadway - to mark the special anniversary.

The church was founded in 1906 when the then Lord Mostyn made a painter’s workshop available as a place of worship. It was transformed by willing workers in a matter of weeks and repurposed as the Adelphi Street Mission - Commonly known as the 'Tin Tab'.

Over time it became too small for the work and the congregation had to borrow the ballroom of the Hydro Hotel for services. Eventually the church found  a permanent home in St Paul’s Church House on Queen’s Road, Craig-y-Don, moving in in October 1974.

To mark the anniversary 30 worshippers people gathered at the old Tin Tab for a special dinner laid on by the Troop Café which now runs the building.

"At one point we sang 'There shall be showers of blessing', the hymn that was sung 118 years ago, the night before the Tin Tab was officially opened," said Reverend Timothy Demore.

"It was amazing for the church to come full circle and celebrate the place and the spirit in which the work began."
