A HOTEL on Llandudno’s seafront which has been closed for more than two years will undergo an extensive refurbishment to its exterior and interior.

The St Kilda Hotel, on Llandudno’s promenade, shut two years ago after being under family ownership for the previous 21 years.

But in October 2022, the hotel was snapped up by The Inn Collection Group (ICG), which also owns the Swallow Falls Hotel in Betws-y-Coed and The Bull in Beaumaris.

A Grade II listed, six-floor hotel dating back to 1854, plans to refurbish its interior and exterior ahead of an anticipated reopening have been approved by Conwy Council’s planning committee.

Previously comprised of 60 bedrooms, the refurbishment will see the creation of 51 bedrooms, an internal re-ordering and modification of the internal plan, added insulation, and repair work to its windows, doors, frontage and elsewhere.

Works will also include the replacement of uPVC windows to front and rear elevation with sliding sash slim line double glazed timber windows, the removal of staircases and an existing lift, internal alteration to outriggers, and the demolition of an existing rear stone wall.

The hotel’s restaurant and bar offering will also be enhanced, with the eventual reopening expected to create up to 30 full-time jobs.

A covering letter on behalf of the applicant, by Mango Planning & Development Limited, said: "The building was originally constructed as several boarding houses but is now a single hotel building that is currently vacant.

"ICG creates inns where everyone would like to eat, drink, sleep and explore from. Customers are at the heart of everything ICG do, along with investments and training in local staff, environments and the communities around the inns while making sure ICG are the best they can be.

"ICG has recently invested in The Bull's Head Inn in Beaumaris and works are currently taking place following their investment in the refurbishment of Swallow Falls Hotel in Betws-y-Coed.

“St Kilda Hotel will be the first site they have acquired in Llandudno, they see it as an exciting opportunity for them within the town.

“To ensure that the hotel is upgraded to suit the current expectations of customers and visitors to Llandudno, ICG are proposing a package of works to refurbish the site.

Speaking when ICG acquired the hotel, its managing director Sean Donkin said: “We are absolutely delighted to be bringing The St Kilda Hotel into our pubs with rooms family and continue our expansion into Wales.

“What sets The Inn Collection Group aside is the exceptional locations of our trading environments and their beautiful outdoor localities and The St Kilda is a perfect match.

“It’s of the correct size to enhance our presence in the area and we’re thrilled to be having it join our existing coastal properties that delight guests in the North East, North Yorkshire and the Lake District.

“We are passionate about investing in unique sites like the St Kilda and making them special places to eat, drink, sleep and explore from and we’re looking forward to it being part of our new chapter as part of the community fabric here in North Wales.”
