A COCKTAIL BAR in Llandudno which was given a one-out-of-five food hygiene rating has said measures have been taken to “ensure this doesn’t happen again”.
The Gresham, at 143 Upper Mostyn Street, was given a one for food hygiene after assessment on August 14.
The bar was rated ‘major improvement necessary’ with regards to its management of food safety – which relates to the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
Its cleanliness and the condition of its facilities and building was deemed ‘improvement necessary’.
However, the bar’s hygienic food handling, which refers to preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage, was rated ‘good’.
The business said the rating was “not reflective” of the “high standards” the bar eschews, and said the issues identified in the inspection had been addressed.

An action plan would insure this “doesn’t happen again”, with the bar hopeful its next rating would be an improvement.
A spokesperson for The Gresham told The Pioneer: “We take food hygiene very seriously across all our venues, and the recent rating at The Gresham is not reflective of the high standards we usually maintain.
“The issues identified during the inspection have been addressed, and we are already implementing an action plan to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
“We are confident that, upon reinspection, our rating will reflect the improvements made.
“Customer safety and satisfaction remain our top priorities.”
The Gresham dates back more than 100 years and is one of the oldest establishments in the town.
A popular cocktail bar, the business has a TripAdvisor rating of 4.5/5 based off 473 reviews.
Earlier this year, the bar was visited by two American tourists with family ties stretching back to the beginning of the 20th century.
