A MAN from Colwyn Bay who repeatedly assaulted his then-partner has been jailed.
Caleb Greer-Broad, 23, of Woodland Road East, was today (October 10) sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment at Caernarfon Crown Court (sitting at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court).
He had previously admitted charges of assault by beating, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and criminal damage to property.
Prosecuting, Thomas McLoughlin told the court that, on May 17, Greer-Broad’s partner, Zara Millington, was at a garden party with friends when a “fracas” ensued between females, before she was then struck to the face by the defendant.
This caused Ms Millington to fall to the floor and sustain a black eye.
But in the early hours of August 24, Greer-Broad had been asked to leave a nightclub in Llandudno, so returned to the hotel in the town he and Ms Millington were staying at.
Back at their hotel room, he “flew into a rage”, breaking a mirror and throwing a chair at a window, and pushing her onto a bed before biting, pushing and punching her.
A staff member was woken by the commotion, and heard Ms Millington shouting: “Someone, please help me.”
Police were contacted by hotel staff, with Ms Millington having suffered a swollen lip and multiple cuts and bruises.
In a statement, she said she feels “very low and unmotivated”, and finds herself ordering takeaways so that she does not have to go out to buy food from shops.
Defending Greer-Broad, who had 13 previous convictions for 15 offences, Richard Edwards said his client apologises for his behaviour, for which he is “genuinely remorseful”.
Greer-Broad, who Mr Edwards described as “emotionally immature”, had written his own “sensitive letter” to the court.
He was said to have struggled with drinking since the age of 14, having since used alcohol as a “coping mechanism”.
Sentencing, Judge Timothy Petts told Greer-Broad that only immediate custody would be appropriate punishment for his “unacceptable” behaviour.
“You clearly haven’t learnt from your previous experiences with the criminal justice system,” Judge Petts said to him.
Greer-Broad was handed a 10-year restraining order, and will pay compensation to the hotel.
