A MAN from Llandudno has been spared jail after more than 1kg of cannabis and almost half an ounce of cocaine were found at his home.

Arron Hender, 32, of Queens Road, was today (October 2) sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, at Caernarfon Crown Court (sitting at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court).

He had previously pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply, and was convicted after trial of possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Prosecuting, David Mainstone told the court that, on October 7, 2022, police raided Hender’s flat, where 1,056.62g of cannabis and 13.4g of cocaine were found.

The cannabis was found to have an approximate street value of £13,000, and the cocaine, which was of “relatively high purity”, of about £2,600.

Hender also had previous convictions for drugs-related offences, the court heard.

Defending him, Rachel Oakdene said he wants to “resolve the issues he’s had in the past, and move on with his life”.

She said Hender has “settled accommodation” and regular contact with his son, who he co-parents with his former partner.

Hender, she added, has had a “history of alcohol and drug abuse”, but now abstains from alcohol altogether, and is avoiding drugs “as best he can”.

Sentencing, Judge Timothy Petts told Hender: “You do seem to be trying to move away from the man you were a couple of years ago.

“I think there’s just about enough here that I can suspend the prison sentence.”

Judge Petts ordered Hender to complete 150 hours’ unpaid work, 35 days’ rehabilitation activity, a 12-month mental health treatment requirement, and a six-month drug rehabilitation requirement.

He is also to abide by a three-month electronically monitored curfew, preventing him from leaving his home between 8pm and 6am.

The drugs seized were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed, while Hender will pay a statutory surcharge.
