A TOTAL of 36 reports of drink-spiking have been made to North Wales Police in the county of Conwy since the start of 2022, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed.

The Pioneer asked the force to disclose the total number of drink-spiking incidents it has received in 2022, 2023 and in 2024 so far, as well as the outcomes of these reports.

Drink-spiking is when someone puts alcohol or drugs into another person's drink without their consent or knowledge.

Below, you can find a breakdown of the results for Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, Llandudno Junction, Rhos-on-Sea, Conwy, Llanfairfechan and Towyn (no other Conwy towns in the Pioneer’s patch had had any incidents reported):

Colwyn Bay – 8 results

  • 2022 – 2 results

Of the eight reported incidents of drink-spiking in Colwyn Bay since the start of 2022, five were described as “administering poison with intent to injure of annoy”.

For three of these, the victim declined, or was unable, to support action to identify the offender – for the other two, an investigation was completed but a suspect was not identified.

Another report, from 2023, was described as a “common assault and battery (violence without injury)” incident – again, an investigation was completed but no suspect was identified.

Two reports, both from 2024, remain under investigation – one relates to an allegation of sexual assault on a male, and the other an allegation of rape of a male.

Llandudno – 17 results

Of the 17 reported incidents of drink-spiking in Llandudno since the start of 2022, 14 were described as “administering poison with intent to injure of annoy”.

In seven of these 14 cases, investigations were completed, but no suspect was identified, while two of them remain under investigation.

For the other five, two involved the victim decline, or being unable, to support action to identify the offender, another saw a suspect named but the victim/key witness was deceased or too ill, a fourth saw a suspect named but evidential difficulties encountered, and the fifth saw a named suspect identified but the victim declined or withdrew their support for the investigation.

Another report, from 2023, was described as a “holding person in slavery or servitude” incident, where the victim declined or was unable to support action to identify the offender.

In 2024, an incident involving a “residential burglary of a home” was reported, and a named suspect identified, but the victim declined or withdrew their support for the investigation.

Another report in 2024 concerned an alleged rape of a male, but the victim declined or was unable to support action to identify the offender.

Llandudno Junction – 5 results

  • 2022 – 5 results

All five reports of Llandudno Junction drink-spiking were made in 2022 – two of these concerned alleged stalking incidents.

But for one, formal police action was considered not in the public interest, and for the other, a named suspect was identified, but the victim declined or withdrew their support for the investigation.

The other three reports were in relation to incidents of alleged malicious communications, harassment and rape of a female.

In all of these three, a named suspect was identified, but the victim declined or withdrew their support for the investigation.

Rhos-on-Sea – 1 result

  • 2023 – 1 result

The one report of drink-spiking in Rhos-on-Sea involved an alleged incident of “administering a substance with intent”.

In this case, a named suspect was identified, but the victim declined or withdrew their support for the investigation.

Conwy – 2 results

Both reports of drink-spiking in Conwy were described as “administering poison with intent to injure or annoy”.

In one of these cases, an investigation was completed but no suspect identified, and in the other, the victim declined or was unable to support action to identify the offender.

Llanfairfechan - 1 result

The only report of drink-spiking in Llanfairfechan was described as “administering poison with intent to injure or annoy”.

Investigations were completed, but did not lead to a suspect being identified.

Towyn – 2 results

Both reports of drink-spiking in Towyn were described as “administering poison with intent to injure or annoy”.

Investigations were completed for both, but neither led to a suspect being identified.
