A MAN who hit his partner over the head with a vodka bottle during their holiday in Llandudno has been jailed.

Osasuyi Odeh, 37, of Mildmay Road, Ipswich, was sentenced to 21 months’ imprisonment at Mold Crown Court today (October 1).

He had previously pleaded guilty to criminal damage to property, and to unlawful wounding.

Prosecuting, Catherine Elvin told the court that Odeh and his partner went to Conwy on April 5, where they ate fish and chips, but a “small disagreement” when ordering their food led to them sitting apart when eating and when on the bus back to Llandudno.

Once back at their hotel in Llandudno, his partner said she wanted to go home and began packing, when Odeh pushed her on to their bed and said: “What have I done this time?”

Odeh then made threats to kill himself, before later checking her WhatsApp messages having demanded to see her mobile phone.

As she went to get up off the bed, he took her laptop from her, held it above his head, and then threw it down on to her knee, causing her pain and damage to the computer’s screen.

She tried to get up fully of the bed, but Odeh pushed back down and told her to “stay here”.

When she tried to get up again, he picked up a one-litre vodka bottle, hitting her hard with it to the extent that she lost consciousness, and suffered a head wound which needed 10 staples to close.

His partner then managed to leave their hotel room, despite Odeh attempting to drag her back inside, and made her way to reception, before staff contacted police.

In a statement, Odeh’s partner said the incident made her “paranoid”, adding that she feels “scared” that she will see him again.

Defending Odeh, who had two previous convictions, Maria Masselis said he “recognises this relationship is over” and is remorseful for his actions.

“Were it not for the fact that he was intoxicated, this incident likely would never have taken place,” she added.

Odeh, who was an adult support worker when he committed these offences and had a second job in security, wants to find employment in the construction industry upon his release from prison.

He also has two young children in Ipswich, and Ms Masselis said he “wishes to be an active part of their lives”.

Sentencing, Judge Nicola Jones told Odeh: “The root of all of this is your drinking. You were clearly intoxicated to a great extent.”

A five-year restraining order was made to protect the victim, while Odeh will also pay a £187 statutory surcharge.
