A WINERY which opened in Abergele in late July has closed, with its owner having said it was “costing myself personally”.
Linda Dykes, who has also run Diamond Cleaning in Abergele for the last 15 years, opened The Winery (Y Gwindy), on Market Street, for the first time on July 26.
But yesterday (September 25), she confirmed that it closed for the final time on September 15.
She had planned to also open a new bakery next door to The Winery. The site of the bakery will instead go to auction.
Linda said: “I have terminated my involvement with The Winery due to huge problems paying bills and wages out of my own pocket.
“I worked extremely hard to ensure this business was successful and run professionally. I just decided I had had enough as it was costing myself personally, which should not have been the case.
“I’m hoping that the right person will be a responsible and respectful leader to maintain this position I’ve created, along with the good name I’ve managed to create.
“I am so sorry for the inconvenience caused to many.”
The Winery’s opening in July featured a “star-studded line-up of celebrity guest singers” - among those entertaining visitors was Dene Michael, the former lead vocalist of Black Lace.
There was also Rhyl-born Sami Brooks, a X Factor finalist in 2011, and Herbie Graham and his wife who were on hand to “entertain with North Wales' finest music”.
