Transport for Wales has agreed to fund the renaming of North Llanrwst railway station.

The station will now be called "North Llanrwst and Trefriw" following a successful campaign by the Trefriw Community Council and the local community.

The decision comes after months of campaigning for a name that better represents the area.

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, said: "This is a victory for the people of Trefriw, Llanrwst, and Trefriw Community Council, who have worked tirelessly to see their vision become a reality.

"We are grateful to Transport for Wales for listening to their voices and for its generous support.

"Together, we are creating a lasting legacy that will inspire pride in our community for years to come."

The station is set to get new signage reflecting the area's rich history and future aspirations.

The aim is to create a welcoming gateway for both locals and visitors.

The renaming effort also highlights the station’s unique identity and important role in the region.

Transport for Wales' support for this project shows their commitment to the heritage and future of Llanrwst and Trefriw, beyond just providing transport.

Ms Finch-Saunders added: "I hope that the return of the station to its historic name will result in more visitors travelling to the area by public transport.

"At present, many tourists do not realise that Trefriw is easily accessible, in good weather, from the train station."
