A study by Alliance Online found that the nostalgic dish is the most popular in Wales, with almost 2,000 searches every month.

Overall, square pizza is the 10th most popular school dinner food in the UK.

Trifle, the UK's most memorable school dinner staple, takes second place in Wales.

Welsh searches for pink custard are up 600 per cent more than mint custard every month.

The study ranked the top 30 school dinner favourites based on how many Brits still search for them.

Across the UK, trifle is the most searched-for school dinner item, with 33,100 searches each month.

This is closely followed by rice pudding and pineapple upside-down cake, each with 27,100 monthly searches.

Despite being banned for nearly 20 years, turkey twizzlers rank ninth in the UK, with 12,100 searches.

Rachael Kiss from Alliance Online said: "Our study shows just how much school dinners continue to cause up a stir across the UK and that they have such an imprint on our childhood.

"It has been eye-opening to see the regional differences of school dinner foods across the UK and how foods translate north-south and across each nation."
