A WOMAN from Old Colwyn whose weight had caused her health problems has lost a remarkable five stone.

Debra Robertshaw knew something in her life “desperately needed to change” after being referred to the gym after contracting Covid-19.

Debra, an asthmatic, was determined to do something about her ever-growing size.

“Covid hit me hard as being an asthmatic, it affected my breathing badly and I couldn’t stop coughing.

“This caused me to be sick and have daily nose bleeds.

“Covid was not helped by being overweight.”

Her ill health even meant walking her three beloved dogs became “almost impossible”.

With the gym being “one of her worst fears” at the weight she was, she decided to seek some support and joined the Slimming World group in Old Colwyn.

She added: "I was determined to lose the weight and feel better and the unfailing encouragement and support from other members and my consultant became the lifeline that helped me all the way to my target.

“I wanted to support my big dream of walking up Snowdon.”

Her consultant Becky said: “Body Magic is our unique activity programme, all about doing a bit more than you currently do, making it a habit and then building up at your own pace.

“Our Body Magic awards will guide you step by step – from doing an extra five minutes a day, all the way to 30 minutes a day on five days of the week – with plenty of encouragement along the way”.

“We’re so proud of Debra and what she’s achieved over this last year.”

Earlier this summer, Debra realised her dream of walking up Snowdon, a fitting end to a year-long effort during which she lost five stone.

“On the 21st of August this year, I walked Snowdon,” Debra said.

“I was so proud of myself when I reached the summit, something I would never have been able to do when I first joined Slimming World.

“The amount of tablets for blood pressure and steroids has changed so much by losing five stone and I feel amazing.

“I’m so proud of myself, but I would have never done it without the support of my group at the Green Hill Community Centre in Old Colwyn - they tell me every week how much more confident and inspiring I am.

“I’d encourage anyone to give it a go”.
